OPENING FILM
Director He Shuming’s debut feature is a co-production between Singapore and Korea, and was Singapore’s recent entry to the Oscars, carrying the ethos of never-too-late-to-live.
Earning a staggering 4 nominations at the prestigious Golden Horse awards, its World Premiere was at the Busan International Film Festival 2022.
AJOOMMA was the hard labour of director He Shuming — it took close to 7 years for the film to be developed from script to screen — and it does not shy from portraying the nuances of a Singapore aunty in all her colloquial relatability. It simultaneously tugs at our heartstrings as it strives to highlight the journey of finding meaning in life.
AJOOMMA is a testament to the possibilities that arise out of collaborations between countries. Most importantly, it shows the huge impact that Korean culture has on the denizens of Singapore, and globally.
