SEOUL INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S FILM FESTIVAL (SIWFF):
SHORT FILM SHOWCASE
Among Korean international film festivals, the Seoul International Women's Film Festival (SIWFF) is a distinctive and significant event that presents new ideals and alternatives from a feminist perspective. The festival promotes development of positive values in women and plays an important role in developing a network between Asian and other nations. SIWFF promotes and exhibits Korean women's films internationally by discovering and supporting women in the film industry. It also aids the development and diversification of the Korean cinema industry. SIWFF contributes to the creation of a balanced Korea culture in order to promote the Korean national image by producing future-oriented, alternative culture.
We’ve always been amazed by Korean Cinema’s ability to produce stunning works that have resonated with audiences all over the globe - PARASITE, HANDMAIDEN, THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE WEIRD, BURNING - and these films have been directed by prominent male directors — Bong Joon Ho to Park Chan Wook and Lee Chang Dong.
Yet, films by female directors such as Kim Bora’s HOUSE OF HUMMINGBIRD, Lee Jeong-hyang’s THE WAY HOME, and Ga-eun Yoon’s THE WORLD OF US, have received significant acclaim as well.
This year, in order to spotlight more incredibly talented Korean female directors, we linked up with the Seoul International Women’s Film Festival, which has been promoting female filmmakers’ works all over the world, to screen short films by up-and-coming Korean female directors.
These short films have distinctive voices and are unique in expressing their messages and narratives. Through these short films, we hope our audience will be encouraged to discover the hidden gems of works by Korean female directors.
